The Ulster & Delaware Railroad began in 1875 after the New York Kingston & Syracuse Railroad became bankrupt and was reorganized as the Ulster & Delaware Railroad. It operated from 1875-1932 and is credited as the Railroad that built the Catskills. The railroad was the only rail route to the Catskills and brought many thousands of tourists to the Catskills for more than 50 years. In 1932 the New York Central Railroad succeeded the U&D.
